This is my story
Hi there!
I'm Aaron, head baker here at the pie shop. Thanks for stopping in.
I opened The Investors Pie Shop to teach beginner to intermediate level investors, what is in my opinion, the best way to invest in the stock market.
I first began seriously participating in the stock market about 17 years ago, not long before the global financial crisis of 2007-2008. I did not have much money to start with so I didn't quite feel the pain that many long-term investors went through at that time watching their account balances fall. What I did feel, was truly interested in how it all works.
The resulting effect on me from that time period, notwithstanding the somewhat voyeuristic nature of my participation, was that I knew I was hooked on the the subject of investing. My life was forever changed. I found something I love to do and haven't looked back since. I started reading anything I could get my hands on about the great investors, especially Warren Buffet and Peter Lynch.
I was going to undergraduate school at that time, earning a bachelors degree in Political Science. I graduated in 2010 and started looking for a job. By 2012 I had begun a career in the engineering business working on marketing proposals, and started graduate school at the University of Colorado-Denver. I also met my amazing wife in 2012.
I finished graduate school with an MBA in 2014 and continued working on engineering proposals. One thing was clear by that time though: I was bored senseless at work.
All the while, I could often be found knee-deep in information, reading and learning about companies, looking at graphs and charts, trading stocks, playing market simulations, looking at my watchlist, and so on. It had become clear to both myself and my friends and family that this was truly my thing.
After being laid-off from the engineering company in 2016 I thought what the heck, I'll give it a shot and become an investment advisor. So, I set up my one man shop, got my securities licenses and started managing money for other people.
Fast forward to 2024, I closed down my advice business and unregistered as an investment advisor (the story in between is very long).
I decided not to remain a financial advisor for a few different reasons, but the aha-moment came when I realized that I could be far more effective as an educator.
I think there are many people out there who don't necessarily want, need, or have access to traditional financial advice, but just need a little bit of education on the subject of how to get started investing. This is the parable about the difference between giving people a fish so they can eat for a day, or teaching people to fish so they may eat for a lifetime. However the old saying goes.
So, I'm not a financial advisor, and I can't give people advice, but what I can do is teach people what I know about investing. That is what the pie shop is about.
My passion for what I do is stronger than ever. Helping people empower themselves to achieve their goals for the future is what keeps me going here. It gives my life purpose and meaning.
And so, without further ado. May I present to you-
